Good golly -you go, Molly There’s no doubting Molly Jackson's fighting-prowess. Her first fight was for her life. and her next will be to give something back to the hospital that saved her. Molly, 14, will slog it out in a boxercise class run by an Eltham gym on Good Friday to raise money for the Royal Children's Hospital. Tony Jackson said his daughter was born with encephalocele, a brain defect so severe she needed 18 operations in her first four years of life. "If you saw her 14 years ago. you'd never have thought she'd live another year. She's a fighter," Mr Jackson said. At birth doctors did not expect her to ever be able to walk or talk, let alone don boxing gloves. "Fourteen years ago she was fighting for her life, and now she's doing a boxercise class to raise funds for the hospital that gave her life," he said. Molly was plagued by epilepsy for years, but had not had a seizure for the past 12 months. She had developmental delays and cerebral palsy, but was doing increasingly well, Mr Jackson said. Molly even has a room named in her honour at the RCH, after her uncle successfully bid for the naming rights at a charity auction. The Molly Jackson Playroom is in the hospital's neuroscience ward. Organisers hope more than 300 people will take part in the charity boxercise class run by Shadows Gym at Skaterz Roller Rink on Good Friday. They hope to raise $5000. Report by Marianne Betts |
